Autumn Colours in Needlefelt
Sunday 18 October 2026
10.30am-4.30pm
Capture the colours of autumn in needle-felt, using British wool and inspired by the autumn leaves and other seasonal colour at RHS Rosemoor. The workshop will begin with some time in the garden to look at the autumn colour, collect some fallen leaves and to generally seek inspiration from the colours and shapes of the season.
I will demonstrate and gently teach from an artist’s perspective how to recreate your chosen leaves by ‘painting with wool’. You will learn step by step about the equipment and the process of needle felting, about composition, perspective, how to build up layers and fine details. The technique includes using barbed needles to produce a 15 cm square piece of art ready to frame.

Location and arrival information: The workshop will take place mostly in the Peter Buckley Learning Centre, with some time also spent outside in the garden for inspiration. Please allow 15 minutes to park in the main visitor car park, enter the garden and get to the Learning Centre.
Catering: Tea / coffee and biscuits will be available in the classroom at the start of the workshop and again in the afternoon. As part of the booking process, you will choose a picnic lunch which is included in the workshop price.

She will give you the basic techniques, explain the process and point you in the right direction, whilst allowing you to use your own style and creativity.

In January of this year, I started a six week art course with Julie and what a wonderful experience it was. We practiced so many styles using many different art products. Six Week Art Journey Course
An experimental journey of acrylics, inks, collage, mixed media, oil pastels and much more! Use different materials every week and learn new skills and techniques. Every week will have an emphasis on the formal elements of art (tone, line, scale and proportion, perspective etc)

My Work
Inspired by nature and the local landscape, I create pieces of work in felts and fibres, acrylics and inks, oils, pastels and mixed media. Located in Okehampton in beautiful Devon with so much inspiration.
Landscape Paintings
Britain is so beautiful…it just has to be painted! I use many different materials, but especially love the richness of oils, but also the convenience of acrylics and inks.
Felt and Stitch
Wonderful Wool! Many of the landscapes and still life I paint get transferred into felted pieces. Using the knowledge of tone and light, it’s just like painting with wool.
Cards and Print
Many of my original pieces are also available as giclee prints, which can be framed, unframed or simply purchased as cards.
My Story
Originally from Warwickshire, with a degree in Illustration, and a teaching qualification. I have taught a whole variety of Art based subjects to all ages and abilities for many years in schools.
A few years ago I decided to start teaching independently from home…
Okehampton Based
…I moved to Okehampton just over 5 years ago and I am currently renovating our home…which is almost finished! This is a base for artist workshops, private tuition and has a studio to produce some wonderful artwork. There is a beautiful Air B and B currently listed as Ash View Basement Apartment, Okehampton where workshops and tuition can be combined with an overnight stay.
