Creative Journey

Six-week Experimental Art Course

Have you always wanted to join an Art Class, but often wondered which one to join?

I am offering a complete artistic journey where you can experiment with many different techniques each week, gain confidence and learn new skills along the way.

Come and join a group of like-minded people for 6 morning sessions. A small enough group for individual attention, relaxed surroundings where you can share ideas, gain inspiration and learn new skills with the addition of cake and refreshments!

This course will run on a weekly basis for six weeks for a maximum of 6 people and all equipment will be included. So there is no need to go out and buy materials until you know exactly what you are interested in creating.

What you will need

Over the six weeks all that you will need is enthusiasm to have a go! You may want to bring along a few photographs when learning about landscapes if you have a few favourites, however there will be plenty of resources here for you to use.

What will you learn

  • Acrylics: If you are an absolute beginner, how to use these versatile paints in their simplest form. You will learn what you can put with acrylics to give texture (tissue, texture pastes and gels).
  • We will be creating small studies and experimental squares. I will show you how to start planning a painting using background, midground and foreground and how to add perspective. How to build up a painting working up to the detail.
  • By using photographs, you will be able to see what to leave in and what to leave out to create your composition
  • Acrylic Inks: How to use in various ways to get different results on their own, by combining with pastels, and by using acrylic inks to add to an acrylic painting for extra fine details. How to use with mixed media, salts and clingfilm to obtain some unusual results.
  • Drawing and sketching with different materials. I will teach you how to achieve realism in your drawings by adding light, shade and tones. If you struggle with drawing I will teach you some simple ways to understand how to get things looking realistic. Every lesson will include a fun exercise of drawing at the beginning to warm up our creativity
  • Oil Pastels: I will teach you how to get the best results from this lovely medium. How to blend, how to add texture and how to make them into paint!
  • Mixed media and collage: how to use different papers and textures either combined with acrylic or with other mediums.
  • Planning a composition: how to get started with a simple thumbnail sketch. How to collect inspiration and how to work from photographs…what to leave in and what to leave out!
  • Learn from an artist’s perspective. The formal elements of art, using colour, tone, shape and form, scale and proportion, perspective and how to create light and shadow. Learning what to put in the background, midground and foreground.
  • At the end of every lesson, you will receive a worksheet to take home with information about the lesson, and an extension task (if you wish) to complete at home for the following session.
